Acropora cylindrica

Veron and Fenner, 2000

Colonies have thick sturdy branches which are circular in cross section and form clumps that may be several metres across. Branches slightly taper and have a single dome-shaped axial corallite. Radial corallites are small and immersed. The coenosteum is smooth.

Colour: Dark brown with white branch ends.

Habitat: Shallow water, especially exposed upper reef slopes and flats.

Abundance: Common in Papua New Guinea, uncommon elsewhere.

Similar species: Acropora brueggemanni , Acropora togianensis
