Hydnophora rigida

(Dana, 1846)

Colonies are composed of irregular, usually flattened branches with or without encrusting bases. Monticules are usually fused into ridges down branch sides. Main branches are 7-12 millimetres thick.

Colour: Cream or green.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments, especially lagoons and protected reef slopes.

Abundance: Sometimes common and may form extensive single species stands.

Similar species: Hydnophora grandis
